Send Your Child To Private Schools if You Can Afford it – President Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo

The President Akufo-Addo of Ghana, who has been under attack from some quarters for the belief that his government’s Free Senior High School policy is churning out low-quality students and consequently reducing standards in education, launched a strong defense for the initiative.

The President said the policy to the best of his knowledge has provided considerable benefits to large masses of underprivileged students, speaking at the Annual Ghana Bar Association Conference held in the Garden City of Kumasi on Monday, September 9. The President added that at the moment, there is an addition in the total number of students who gain admission to different Senior High Schools.

He recommended that those who believe they don’t receive quality education up to their personal expectations should find private institutions elsewhere. At the same time, he assured that his government remains genuinely committed to ensuring that the poor and downtrodden do not suffer with regard to access to education.

“Those who are in a position to pay fees for the education of their ward, send their wards to the fee-paying private schools.

These are those public schools that should be tuition-free to all, since they are paid through tax monies, and therefore one should not pay school fees to attend school. It is for this very reason, he said, “that the number of people who can receive second cycle education has drastically risen and has doubled ever since the free education policy in senior high schools was introduced”.
