2 SOLDIERS DEAD, 4 OTHERS INJURED IN GHASTLY ROAD ACCIDENT AT SAKA NEAR ZEBILLA.

At approximately 3:40 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon, a very unfortunate and sad accident occurred involving a light armoured vehicle of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

The unfortunate incident occurred precisely at a place known as Saka, which is located in very close proximity to Zebilla, in the Upper East Region of Ghana. The vehicle was on its way from the town of Bawku to the city of Bolgatanga at the time of the accident when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Eyewitnesses who had been on the site where the unfortunate accident took place stated that the vehicle was traveling at a terribly high and obviously unsafe speed and lost control following a catastrophic blowout of the rear tire. In the course of the frightening accident, the rear tire was completely ripped off the axle with catastrophic results.

The accident was in two ways fatal, claiming the life of the gunner and a fellow solder. In addition, the accident left four other people with life and serious injury, forcing them to be taken in a rush to Zebilla District Hospital where they received critical and urgent medical attention.

Personnel from the Zebilla Police Command responded quickly and with utmost effectiveness as they quickly reported to the scene where the tragic accident had occurred. They provided vital support in the challenging process of evacuating the injured, while also taking charge of coordinating the situation that was developing before them.

The recent accident has brought back in a striking way the growing anxieties and fears among local residents about frequent and indiscriminate speeding in their area by military vehicles. The unfortunate and troubling practice has already accounted for a considerable number of accidents and, worse, fatalities in the recent months, and consequently, there is increased alarm and panic among residents who dwell in the area.
